In 2010, Newton made his return to Division I football at Auburn University.

That year, Newton was ranked the number one quarterback from either high school or junior college by, and he was the only five-star recruit.

Newton was named a juco All-American honorable mention, and he was the most recruited juco quarterback in the country.

That fall, Newton led his team to the 2009 NJCAA National Football Championship after running for 655 yards and throwing 2,833 yards with 22 touchdowns.

The January of 2009, Newton was able to transfer to Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, under head coach Brad Franchione.

He also left the university rather than facing a suspension or expulsion.

Newton’s charges were dropped after he completed a court-approved pretrial diversion program.

He was indefinitely suspended from the team and announced his intention to transfer three days before Florida’s championship win over Oklahoma.

However, following his injury, Newton was charged and arrested for the alleged theft of a laptop computer from a student.

During his sophomore year in 2008, Newton was able to play in the season opener against Hawaii, but he suffered an ankle injury that made him take a medical redshirt (a mechanism where a student-athlete can practice with the team and attend classes without using their years of athletic eligibility) season.

He also ran the ball 16 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Newton played in five games and threw 40 yards on 5-of-10 passing.He beat his fellow freshman, John Brantley, for the position. In 2007, as a freshman at the University of Florida, Newton earned his spot as the back-up for star quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow.Newton chose the Gators because his skills and talents fit the spread option offense better than any other team out there.During a press conference at Westlake High School on September 7, 2006, Newton made the decision to choose the University of Florida over Oklahoma and Mississippi State.In his senior year, Newton was offered several scholarships from the University of Georgia, the University of Florida, Virginia Tech, and many more.
